The short answer: in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm and the surrounding area you can easily fill a whole weekend. The open-air museum is a few minutes on foot from guesthouse Anděl, the Bečva cycle path starts a hundred metres from the door, and Pustevny and Radhošť are about half an hour away by car. For each tip below you will find its distance from the guesthouse and a link to a detailed guide.

What can you do right in Rožnov?

The best thing about Rožnov is that the loveliest sights are right around the corner. The Wallachian Open-Air Museum, the largest open-air museum in Central Europe, is just a few minutes on foot from us, so you can happily leave the car in the car park. It is divided into three areas, the Wooden Town, the Wallachian Village and the Mill Valley, and takes anywhere from half a day to a full day to explore. Craft demonstrations and folk festivities run here all year round.

A little above the town stands the wooden Jurkovič lookout tower, designed by the architect Dušan Jurkovič, with views over Rožnov and the surrounding hills. It is a pleasant short walk, ideal for your first day while you are getting your bearings. And right by the guesthouse, a hundred metres from the door, the Bečva cycle path begins: paved, car-free and almost without any climbs, so even families with small children can manage it.

Is a trip to Pustevny and Radhošť worth it?

Definitely, it is a Beskydy classic. From guesthouse Anděl you can reach the car park below Pustevny in about 30 minutes by car, and a chairlift will also carry you up from Trojanovice. From there a comfortable ridge walk leads to the summit of Radhošť, and thanks to the wide, level path even children can manage it. In fine weather and at weekends the car park fills up early, so it pays to set off right after breakfast.

  • The ridge walk from Pustevny to Radhošť is about 4 km; one way it takes an hour to an hour and a half.
  • Along the way you pass the statue of the pagan god Radegast, one of the most photographed spots in the Beskydy.
  • On the summit of Radhošť (1,129 m above sea level) stands the chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius.
  • At Pustevny, admire Jurkovič’s Art Nouveau buildings Libušín and Maměnka, a national cultural monument.

Exactly how to do it, including the chairlift option and the walk up on foot, we cover in our guides Pustevny and Radhošť and Radhošť on foot.

“The question our guests ask most often is what they can fit into a single day. Our answer: the open-air museum a few minutes from us in the morning, the Radhošť ridge in the afternoon, and coffee on our terrace in the evening.”

Where to go in Rožnov with children or when it rains?

Even with children and in unkind weather there is plenty to choose from. The open-air museum has a year-round programme, and the flat Bečva cycle path suits little legs too. And if it does start to rain, you do not have to go anywhere:

  • At Anděl café you will find specialty coffee, homemade cakes (including vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free) and a cosy kids’ corner. We are open daily from 11:00 to 20:00.
  • You can round off the day in the private sauna just for you, for two to four people.

When to visit Rožnov?

Rožnov and the Beskydy work all year round; only the focus changes. In summer, cycling along the Bečva cycle path and ridge walks to Pustevny and Radhošť are the thing. In autumn the forests around Radhošť turn golden and the light over the open-air museum is lovely. In winter the nearby ski slopes beckon, and the snow-covered open-air museum has a charm of its own. In spring the Wallachian Village and the orchards around town come into bloom.

How much time to set aside for what?

Whether you are planning a single day or a long weekend, here is a rough budget of time:

  • Half a day to a full day: the Wallachian Open-Air Museum with all three areas.
  • A full day: a trip to Pustevny and Radhošť with the ridge walk and the chairlift.
  • A morning or an early evening: a ride along the Bečva cycle path beside the river.
  • About an hour: a walk to the Jurkovič lookout tower and the view over the town.
