Winter in the Beskydy: Skiing and Cross-Country Around Rožnov
Winter in the Beskydy has its own magic, snow-covered ridges, silence in the forest and a trail leading you through the valley. Around Rožnov there is something for downhill skiers, cross-country skiers and those who just want a quiet walk. And in the evening? Here at Anděl, the sauna and a cup of something hot will warm you up.
Skiing around Rožnov
The closest option to the penzion is Rališka Ski Resort, roughly 13.8 km, about a 20-minute drive. It suits families and intermediate skiers.
Within driving distance there are other Beskydy resorts where you can head for a longer day in the snow. Before you set off, always check:
- the current snow conditions and the number of open slopes,
- the operating hours of the lifts and evening skiing,
- ski-pass prices (which change with the season).
Cross-country skiing and trails
The Beskydy are a cross-country skier’s paradise. Around Rožnov and on the ridges you will usually find groomed trails, from easy valley loops to more demanding ridge crossings.
A few tips from us:
- Set off in the morning, while the trail is freshly groomed.
- Bring layered clothing, it is cold in the forest and windy on the ridge.
- The condition of the trails changes quickly with the weather, so check the current report the day before.
Winter walks and a quieter programme
You do not need skis to enjoy the winter Beskydy:
- A walk along the Bečva valley, an easy route just a few steps from the penzion.
- Pustevny and Radhošť, a snow-covered ridge walk with the statue of Radegast; Pustevny and Radhošť are about a 30-minute drive away.
- The museum in winter, the Wallachian Museum has its own charm in winter, along with an Advent and winter programme (check the dates).
How to warm up after a day in the snow
This is our speciality. After a frosty day, you can warm up here at Anděl in two ways:

- Anděl café, speciality coffee, hot chocolate and a homemade cake. Sit down in the warmth and leave winter outside the window.
