Trip to Pustevny and Radhošť: Ridge Walk and Radegast
Pustevny and Radhošť are among the most beautiful spots the Beskydy have to offer — and they are just a short hop from our penzion. They are linked by a comfortable ridge walk with the statue of Radegast, a chapel at the summit and the enchanting wooden buildings of architect Dušan Jurkovič. Here is how to do it.
How do you get to Pustevny from Rožnov?
From Anděl penzion it is roughly a 30-minute drive to the car park below Pustevny (cars are not allowed up to Pustevny itself). You can also go up on foot or take the chairlift from Trojanovice — the chairlift carries you to the top in a few minutes and is especially welcome with children or when you want to save your legs for the ridge walk.
Tip: the car park fills up quickly at weekends and in season. It is better to set off in the morning.
What can you see right at Pustevny?
Pustevny is a destination in itself, not just a starting point:
- Libušín and Maměnka — Art Nouveau wooden buildings by Dušan Jurkovič from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, today a national cultural monument. Libušín was restored after a fire; the details of the façades and interiors are well worth admiring.
- The Valaška Trail — a treetop and viewing trail with attractions, popular with families (admission is charged separately, so check prices in advance).
- Refreshments and views over the valley — on a clear day you can see far across the region.
What is the Pustevny–Radhošť ridge walk like?
A wide, comfortable ridge path about 4 km long leads from Pustevny to Radhošť. It is not a demanding climb — the elevation gain is gentle, so you can take it at an easy pace and reach the top in one to one and a half hours one way.
Along the way you will encounter:
- The statue of Radegast — a stone statue of the pagan god of abundance by sculptor Albín Polášek, one of the most photographed spots in the entire Beskydy.
- The summit of Radhošť (1,129 m) with the chapel of Sts Cyril and Methodius and a sculptural group of the two missionaries.
You can return the same way or extend the route further along the ridge — it all depends on how much time and energy you have.
When is the best time for the trip?
Pustevny and Radhošť are beautiful all year round:
- Summer and autumn — ideal for the ridge walk, with colourful forests as a bonus in autumn.
- Winter — a cross-country skiing paradise and the snow-covered Jurkovič buildings look like something out of a fairy tale; bring sturdy boots and warm clothing.
- Spring — fewer people and fresh greenery.
Always check the forecast — it tends to be colder and windier on the ridge than down in Rožnov.
Combine the trip with a stay in Rožnov
Pustevny and Radhošť can be done as a full-day trip, but it is even better to give the Beskydy more of your time. Stay with us in the calm of Rožnov, head into the mountains in the morning and return in the evening. After your hike, our private sauna is just the thing to ease tired legs, or relax in the café with a homemade cake and speciality coffee.
Take a look at our rooms and book your stay — we are happy to suggest more trips in the area too. We look forward to welcoming you.
