The Beskydy with Kids: Trip Tips and Family Stays

You can enjoy the Beskydy with kids without any stress, even with preschoolers: distances are short, the open-air museum is a few minutes on foot from the guesthouse, the Bečva cycle path starts 100 m from the door, and when it rains there is always somewhere to go. Here at Anděl we add family rooms to the mix, and children under 4 stay free. Below you will find a plan for both fine weather and rain.

What to do in the Beskydy with kids in fine weather?

When the weather turns out nice, you have a full day’s worth of options around Rožnov pod Radhoštěm without going far. You can reach most of these on foot or within a 30-minute drive:

• Bečva cycle path, starts 100 m from the guesthouse, is flat and follows the river valley all the way to Vsetín or Horní Bečva. Ideal for first kilometres with children, for a balance bike or a pram.
• Wallachian Open-Air Museum, three areas (the Wooden Town, the Wallachian Village and the Mill Valley), live crafts, animals and a programme for families. Children love the animals, the forge and the old mill the most, and the entrance is just a few minutes on foot from the guesthouse.
• Playgrounds in Rožnov, you will find climbing frames and sandpits both in the centre and in the park by the Bečva, a few minutes’ walk from the guesthouse.
• Pustevny and Radhošť, roughly a 30-minute drive. The ridge walk is easy enough for families, and you can also take a chairlift up (check the operating times in advance).

Where to go with kids in the Beskydy when it rains?

The Beskydy weather can surprise you, so we always have a plan B to keep the day from being spoiled:

• Anděl café, right here at the guesthouse you can enjoy specialty coffee and a homemade cake while the children play in the cosy kids’ corner a few steps from your table. We are open daily from 11:00 to 20:00.
• The open-air museum in the rain too, part of the exhibition is indoors, so a trip to the Wallachian Museum is worth it even when it is wet.
• The aquapark in Rožnov, a classic for a rainy afternoon, is close to the guesthouse.
• A quiet afternoon in your room, board games, books and a warm cup of tea. A day like that often turns out to be the loveliest of all.

Where to stay in the Beskydy with kids?

Families staying with us at Anděl most often head for our spacious rooms. With children we are happy to put you up in the Bukový, Březový or Habrový room; Buk also has a separate bedroom, so the children fall asleep while you read or chat in peace, without having to whisper in the dark.

We have 9 rooms in total, so only a few are family rooms and they fill up first at weekends and during the holidays. We do not allow dogs, which keeps things calm and suits families with allergies too. Your morning starts with a generous breakfast, included for all our guests, so you do not have to trek anywhere with the children for food. Check-in is from 14:00 to 20:00 and check-out by 10:00. How to plan a family day from the guesthouse?

A tried-and-tested rhythm that families praise:

1. A morning bike ride or a trip to the open-air museum, plenty of running around outdoors.
2. Lunch and an afternoon rest in your room, the little ones need a break.
3. The café and the kids’ corner in the early evening, coffee and cake for you, play for them.
4. In the evening, once the children are asleep, the private sauna just for 2 to 4 people, a reward for the parents (1,000 Kč for 120 minutes, last entry at 18:00).

Practical tips to finish

• Bring the children wellies and a change of clothes, they love splashing about by the Bečva.
• We also have vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free cakes, so the whole family can enjoy them, even with allergies.
• Family rooms are limited, so it is best to book in advance, especially at weekends and during the holidays.
• In winter the nearest option is Rališka Ski Resort (13.8 km), good for first skiing and sledging too.
