Bečva Cycle Path: Cycle the Valley Straight from the Penzion

The question we hear most from guests on bikes is simple: where does the Bečva cycle path start around here? The answer is short, 100 metres from our door. It follows a flat valley along the river, it is paved and car-free, so even children can ride it comfortably. One direction takes you to Vsetín, the other to Horní Bečva.

Where does the Bečva cycle path start in Rožnov?

The path traces the valley of the Bečva river and runs straight through Rožnov. From Anděl penzion you are on it within a few steps, literally 100 metres, which cuts out the most tedious part of any cycling trip: loading bikes into a car. You set off from the door, and you come back to the door.

Rožnov sits roughly in the middle of the route, so you can choose which direction to head each day. Both options follow an easy valley along the water and differ mainly in length and in whether you feel like heading towards the mountains or away from them. Which way to go, towards Vsetín or towards Horní Bečva?

Two main directions lead out of Rožnov, and neither will disappoint. Here is a quick comparison so you know what to expect:

Downstream to Vsetín is the classic choice: flat ground, the river at your side, and as many kilometres as you feel like covering. Upstream to Horní Bečva, the valley gradually climbs into the Beskydy hills, and this is where an e-bike really pays off. Whichever you choose, you do not have to ride the whole route. Turn around whenever you like and head back the same way, no need to plan a loop.

Is the Bečva cycle path suitable for families with children?

Yes, and it is one of the main reasons families on bikes keep coming here. The surface is paved and separated from car traffic for most of its length, with almost no climbing. In practice that means:

• children and less experienced cyclists can manage it easily,
• it also works well for inline skating,
• you can bring a bike trailer or child seat without any trouble.

You can adjust the length of the trip to suit the youngest riders. Head out for just an hour to the first spot by the river, turn around, and you have a pleasant loop behind you with no tears and no stress from traffic. Once the kids get stronger, add more kilometres towards Vsetín.

Where can you rent a bike in Rožnov?

If you are not bringing your own bike, you can rent one right in Rožnov, including e-bikes, which come in handy on a longer route or on the climb towards Horní Bečva. Many rental shops also offer children’s bikes, trailers and child seats, so you can kit out the whole family in one place.

Check prices and opening hours in advance, bikes tend to go quickly on weekends and in the main season, especially. Reserving a bike a day ahead means you know you will set off on schedule in the morning. A few small tips for the road: bring water and a light snack, and pack a light rain jacket, weather in the Beskydy can change quickly.

Where can you stop along the way?

So the trip is not just about pedalling, a few pleasant stops are worth building in along the way and at the end:

• Wallachian Open-Air Museum: the largest open-air museum in Central Europe is practically on your way through Rožnov, just a few minutes on foot from the penzion, and easy to combine with a walk.
• A rest by the river: along the Bečva you will find benches and shady spots perfect for a snack and a short break.
• Back to our café: after your loop, treat yourself to speciality coffee from the QB roastery and a homemade cake, available gluten-free, lactose-free or vegan too. We are open daily from 11:00 to 20:00, and the kids can play in our cosy children’s corner in the meantime.

Why stay right by the cycle path?

The biggest advantage is simple: you stay 100 metres from the path. In the morning you set off without loading any bikes, and in the evening you park your bike and you are home.
