Autumn in the Beskydy: Forest Colours, Mushrooms and Calm

Colourful autumn forests in the Beskydy near Rožnov pod Radhoštěm

Autumn, we think, is the loveliest time in the Beskydy. The forests glow in every shade of orange, morning mist drifts through the valley and there are far fewer tourists than in summer. Add warm coffee and a bit of peace and quiet, and you have the perfect recipe for a stay.

Why visit the Beskydy in autumn

  • Forest colours — the beeches and larches turn orange and gold in October. The view from the ridges is like a painting.
  • Fewer people — outside the main season you can enjoy trips and parking in Rožnov in peace.
  • Pleasant walking temperatures — no summer heat, ideal for longer hikes.
  • Seasonal calm — shorter days invite you to slow down: a trip in the morning, the café in the afternoon, the sauna in the evening.

Tips for autumn trips

Within a 30-minute drive of the penzion, there is something to suit your mood and the weather:

  • Pustevny and Radhošť — a colourful ridge walk with the statue of Radegast, less crowded in autumn.
  • Bečva cycle path — starts 100 m from the penzion; on foot or by bike along a valley lined with colourful trees.
  • Jurkovič lookout tower — views of the autumn-coloured hills around Rožnov.
  • Forests above the town — quiet walks where you are more likely to meet a deer than a crowd.

Mushroom picking in the Beskydy

The Beskydy forests are usually generous with mushrooms, especially a few days after rain. A few rules we hold to here in Wallachia:

  • Pick only what you can safely identify.
  • Be considerate of the forest — cut mushrooms rather than pulling them and damaging the mycelium.
  • Bring a basket (not a plastic bag), so the spores can keep falling.

When you get back, we are happy to suggest where to walk tomorrow.

A cosy afternoon at the café

Autumn and a warm café belong together. When the wind picks up or rain comes, sit down with us at Anděl café. Speciality coffee, hot chocolate and homemade cakes await — we also have gluten-free and vegan options, so there is something for everyone. Meanwhile, the children can play in the largest kids’ corner in Rožnov.

And when you want to warm up a body chilled by the rain, book our private sauna — a Finnish sauna and cool-down pool just for 2–4 people. Cool autumn evenings are made for it.

How to plan an autumn stay

A proven autumn day with us looks like this:

  1. A morning trip for the colours or for mushrooms.
  2. Lunch in town and a short rest.
  3. Coffee and cake at the café in the afternoon.
  4. The private sauna in the evening and a quiet night in your room.

You can choose from our rooms depending on whether you are travelling as a couple or with the family.

Drawn to a quiet autumn in the Beskydy? Take a look at our rooms and book your stay — the colours, the coffee and the sauna will be waiting for you.
