The most beautiful lookout towers in the Beskydy Mountains

The Beskydy Mountains are a paradise for lovers of fine views, and lookout towers belong here like cake belongs with coffee. Some are wooden and historic, others newer, but every one rewards you with a sweeping view across the ridges. Here is an overview of those you can reach most easily from us in Rožnov.

The Jurkovič Tower at Pustevny

A classic, and perhaps the best-known viewpoint in the area. It stands at Pustevny, alongside the Art Nouveau buildings by architect Dušan Jurkovič.

  • Distance from Rožnov: roughly 30 minutes by car to the car park below Pustevny.
  • An easy ride up by cable car from Trojanovice.
  • Views of Radhošť, the ridges and the valleys — and the Libušín and Maměnka lodges right next door.

The lookout tower on Velký Javorník

A wooden tower on the summit of Velký Javorník (918 m a.s.l.) above Frenštát pod Radhoštěm, with a mountain lodge right beside it.

  • Distance from Rožnov: roughly 25–30 minutes by car to Frenštát, then the climb.
  • The walk up takes roughly 1.5–2 hours one way.
  • A panoramic view of Radhošť, Lysá hora and the Moravian Gate.

The lookout tower on Soláň

Soláň is the “painters’ hill” between Karolinka and Velké Karlovice — to the views you can add an artistic atmosphere and the Zvonice gallery.

  • Distance from Rožnov: roughly 20–25 minutes by car.
  • Easy walks along the ridge, gentle enough for children.
  • Far-reaching views into the Beskydy and the Javorníky on a clear day.

Other viewpoints worth seeing

The Beskydy Mountains have more lookout towers and viewpoints — from wooden structures on the ridges to summits with sweeping views. A few ideas for where else to go:

  • Summits and ridges around Radhošť with views that need no tower.
  • Viewpoints along the ridges towards the Javorníky.
  • Seasonal viewpoints and lodges where you can sit down for refreshments.

Always check opening hours and admission in advance — out of season and in winter they tend to be limited.

When to set out for the lookout towers

You will enjoy them most on clear days, when the views truly come into their own — that is the whole charm of it. They are beautiful in summer, but also in autumn, when the forests turn orange. Set out in the morning to beat the weekend crowds at the car parks.
