Zoos, Farms and Animals near Rožnov for Families

Where can you take the kids to see animals around Rožnov? Your closest option is the Wallachian Open-Air Museum, where horses, poultry and other farm animals live alongside the timbered cottages, just a few minutes’ walk from Anděl guesthouse. For petting farms and smallholdings, where children can pet and feed the animals, plan on up to 60 minutes by car. Here is our family rundown of where to go and how to plan the day so everyone, kids and parents alike, has a good time.

Where to see animals in Rožnov without driving far?

You do not need to get in the car right away, you will meet the first animals right in town:

• Wallachian Open-Air Museum (skanzen). Live animals are part of the craft atmosphere, children love the horses, poultry and farm animals by the timbered cottages. It is the largest open-air museum in Central Europe, and you can walk there from our place in a few minutes. We have written more in our article on the Wallachian Open-Air Museum.
• A walk along the Bečva. Ducks, water birds and animal tracks in the nearby woods. Free wildlife watching right around the corner, perfect for a first morning before you head further afield.

Where to find petting farms and smallholdings nearby?

When you want the children to really pet and feed the animals, it is worth heading to a farm or smallholding a little further out:

• At petting farms, children most often meet goats, sheep, rabbits and horses, and at some you can even take a ride or help with feeding.
• Most tips are within 60 minutes by car of the guesthouse, so you can comfortably fit them in as a half-day trip and be back at the room by afternoon.
• Check opening hours and admission by phone in advance, as many farms only run seasonally or on weekends and are often closed outside the main season.
• A big classic zoo means driving a bit further from the Beskydy, but around Rožnov children enjoy the close-up contact with animals at a smallholding just as much.

How to plan a day with animals with young children?

A tried-and-tested rhythm that families here tell us works well:

1. Morning at the farm or open-air museum → children have energy and the animals are freshly fed and lively.
2. Lunch and quiet time in the room → little ones need a break so afternoon tiredness does not catch up with them.
3. Early evening at the café and kids corner → you enjoy a coffee and cake while they finish the play they did not get to outside.

What to pack for a farm trip with kids?

A few small things that are easy to forget when animals are involved:

• Your own drinks and snacks, refreshments are not on hand everywhere.
• Hand sanitiser or wet wipes for after petting the animals.
• Check about feeding on-site, some places do not welcome you bringing your own, while others sell it right at the entrance.
