Weather in the Beskydy and the Best Time to Visit by Season

Changing weather over the Beskydy hills near Rožnov pod Radhoštěm

One thing about the Beskydy always holds true: the weather changes fast. Fog in the morning, sun at midday, a shower towards evening — all in a single day. Do not take it as a downside. Each season has something of its own here, and we will advise you when to come based on what you expect from your stay.

Summer: hikes, cycling and long days

June to August is the main season. The days are long, the warmth invites you to the mountains, and the Bečva cycle path is right next to us. What to expect:

  • Best for hikes — Radhošť, Pustevny, Velký Javorník.
  • The most people — at weekends and during the holidays the trails are busier.
  • Afternoon storms — they love to build up in the heat, so plan hikes for the morning.

Even in summer the evenings cool down, so a light jacket belongs in your backpack.

Winter: snow and skiing

December to March is all about snow. The Beskydy are among the snowier Czech mountains, and snow usually lasts the whole winter. Good for:

  • Skiing — more in the article winter in the Beskydy and skiing.
  • Cross-country skiing and walks in the snowy landscape.
  • Wellness after the cold — a sauna after a day outside is the best.

Conditions differ from year to year, so check the current snow situation before you set off.

Spring and autumn: calm without the crowds

This is our tip for those who do not like the crush. The turn of April and May and the whole of September are, in our view, the loveliest:

  • Nature is at its most beautiful — in spring everything is budding, in autumn the colours blaze.
  • Fewer people — the trails and the town are calmer.
  • Lower prices outside the main season.

The weather is changeable, but that makes it all the more authentic. What to pack is set out in our checklist for a Beskydy stay.
