Pack mainly layers of clothing and sturdy ankle boots for the Beskydy, mountain weather can turn even within two hours. Beyond that, it depends on the season and on whether you are heading out on a hike or planning to relax. Below you will find a concrete checklist from the locals, a table by season and a list of things you can happily leave at home.
What to pack for the Beskydy no matter when you come
Whether it is January or July, a few things belong in your backpack every time. Pack for layers rather than volume, smart layering replaces half a suitcase:
- Three layers of clothing: a T-shirt, a sweatshirt or fleece and a waterproof jacket. Add or remove layers as the weather changes.
- A rain jacket or light waterproof shell in your backpack always, even when the morning is sunny.
- Sturdy ankle boots with a profiled (chunkier) sole, plus functional socks and one spare pair.
- A 20 to 30 l backpack for a day trip, a 1 to 1.5 l water bottle and a snack.
- A power bank and cable: a phone running maps and taking photos drains faster on a hike than you would expect.
- A small first-aid kit: blister plasters, disinfectant and any medication you normally take.
- Swimwear and flip-flops, if you are adding a private sauna to your stay.
“In the Beskydy, do not go by the morning forecast. Bring layers and a rain jacket even when the sun is shining, the sky can look completely different two hours later.”
What shoes should I bring to the Beskydy?
This is the question we hear most often from guests. The answer is simple: sturdy shoes with a profiled sole, ideally ankle-high. The terrain on marked trails tends to be damp, rocky and laced with roots, even where it looks easy.
- For hikes (Radhošť, Pustevny, nature trails): ankle-high trekking boots. Trainers are not enough, you will slip on rocks and in mud.
- For walks (a few minutes to the open-air museum, the Bečva cycle path, Jurkovič’s lookout tower): a firmer pair of sneakers with a chunkier sole is enough.
- In winter: waterproof winter footwear, with slip-on ice grips (micro-crampons) for icy patches.
- Always: spare socks in your backpack. Wet feet can spoil an otherwise beautiful day.
What to pack for the Beskydy by season
The basics stay the same, what changes is mainly what you add on top. Here is a quick overview by season:
| Season | Key layers and footwear | Do not forget |
|---|---|---|
| Winter (December to March) | thermal layer, waterproof winter footwear, hat, gloves | sunscreen (snow reflects sunlight), ice grips |
| Spring (April to May) | layers, water-resistant ankle boots | rain jacket, expect mud, a lighter and a warmer sweatshirt |
| Summer (June to August) | breathable T-shirt, light jacket for the evening | a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, plenty of water |
| Autumn (September to November) | layers, waterproof jacket, warmer socks | rain jacket, headlamp (it gets dark earlier) |

What to bring for a hike and for the private sauna
For a day hike, a small backpack is enough: water, a snack, a rain jacket, a power bank and a charged phone with an offline map. You will not find refreshments on every corner in the mountains, so pack a little extra and lean toward more water rather than less.
Nothing soothes tired legs after a hike quite like a sauna. For our private sauna, bring just swimwear and flip-flops, robes are included in the price. It fits 2 to 4 people, costs 1,000 Kč for 120 minutes, and the price also includes a carafe of water and 2 x 0.1 l of prosecco. Book at least 2 hours ahead on 602 541 112, last entry is at 18:00.
What to leave at home instead
A few things would just take up space in your backpack. These are the ones we take care of for you:
- Do not worry about breakfast: a hearty breakfast is included in the room price (2,000 to 2,700 Kč for two per night) and we prepare it for guests staying with us. See the details at our rooms.
- A robe for the sauna: it is included in the price of the private sauna, no need to pack your own.
- Coins for parking: you park for free right by the guesthouse.
- Mobile data for work: we have Wi-Fi throughout the guesthouse.
- The oversized “just in case” suitcase: in the mountains, smart layering beats extra volume every time.
All packed? Then head off to the Beskydy. If you do not have a place to drop your backpack yet, book your stay with us or call +420 602 541 112. We will take care of the calm, the breakfast and the sauna after your hike, you just enjoy the mountains.
Frequently asked questions
What shoes should I bring to the Beskydy?
Sturdy shoes with a profiled sole, ideally ankle-high. The terrain tends to be damp and rocky even on marked trails. For longer hikes up Radhošť or to Pustevny, trainers are not enough, while a firmer pair of sneakers is fine for a relaxed walk to the open-air museum.
Should I expect rain even in summer?
Yes. It rains more often in the mountains and the weather changes quickly. A light rain jacket or waterproof shell belongs in your backpack at all times, even when the morning is sunny.
What should I bring for the private sauna?
Just swimwear and flip-flops. Robes are included in the price, along with a carafe of water and 2 x 0.1 l of prosecco. The private sauna costs 1,000 Kč for 120 minutes for 2 to 4 people, book at least 2 hours ahead on 602 541 112, last entry is at 18:00.
Do I need to bring food for breakfast?
No. Breakfast is included in the room price and we prepare it for guests staying with us. For a hike, though, pack a snack and, above all, plenty of water, you will not find refreshments on every corner in the mountains.
How should I pack for winter in the Beskydy?
On top of the usual layers, add a thermal base layer, warm socks, a hat, gloves and waterproof winter footwear. Slip-on ice grips for your boots help on icy paths, and do not forget sunscreen, snow reflects sunlight far more than you would expect.
