A rainy day with children around Rožnov: where to go
The Beskydy weather can catch you out — blue skies in the morning, a shower by noon. That is why, with children, we always keep a plan B. Here is our tried-and-tested list of where to go around Rožnov when it pours outside, and how to spend a rainy day so that both the children and you enjoy it.
Indoor museums and displays
When it rains, indoor displays are a safe bet. Within 30 minutes of the guesthouse you have:
- The Wallachian Open-Air Museum — part of the displays is covered, so you can see the crafts, the mill and the interiors of the cottages while staying dry. The children just need wellies and a raincoat.
- Museums right in Rožnov — smaller displays in town can be done in an hour, ideal when you just want to wait out a shower.
- An observatory and other indoor programmes in the area — good for early evening, when the children need calm under a roof.
A pool and indoor play
Water works on children in any weather:
- An indoor pool and aquaparks in the area are within 30–40 minutes by car. A great way to burn off energy when nothing else outdoors is possible.
- Play centres and indoor playgrounds in town and the surrounding centres — climbing frames, trampolines and peace for parents over a coffee.
It is best to check the opening hours in advance, as they sometimes change out of season.
A children’s corner right at our place
Our secret tip for a rainy afternoon is the simplest one — stay with us. At Café Anděl we have the largest children’s corner in Rožnov. The children play in the dry and the warm while you finally get a coffee and a slice of homemade cake in peace.
And because we think of the whole family, you will also find gluten-free and vegan cakes with us — even those who have to watch what they eat can enjoy themselves.
A quiet afternoon in your room
Sometimes the nicest day is the one when you do not have to go anywhere. Board games, books, hot tea and rain drumming on the windows. Families with us most often head for the Bukový room, which has a separate bedroom — the children can play while the little one falls asleep behind the wall.
For families, we offer:
- Children under 4 free — no surcharge for accommodation.
- An extra bed for 599 Kč for older children — just state the number of children when booking.
- A children’s cot for 100 Kč for babies.
Take a look at our rooms and choose the one that suits your family.
How to plan a rainy day
A tried-and-tested rhythm that families praise with us:
- An indoor display or the open-air museum in the morning → you learn something and stay dry.
- Lunch and an afternoon rest in your room → the little ones need a break.
- The café and the children’s corner in the early evening → coffee for you, play for them.
- In the evening, once the children are asleep, the private sauna just for you → a reward for the parents for a rescued day.
Practical tips to finish
- Bring wellies, raincoats and a change of clothes — they always come in handy in the Beskydy Mountains.
- Book the indoor programme or check the opening hours in advance.
- Note: dogs are not allowed at our guesthouse, so bear that in mind when planning a family trip.
