Štramberk and the Trúba tower: a trip from Rožnov

View of the Trúba tower in Štramberk above the roofs of historic houses

Štramberk is one of the places I most love to send you from us at Anděl. It is a picture-book little town with wooden houses, cobbled lanes and a tower that looks out over the whole region. And then there is the sweet scent of Štramberk Ears that you catch the moment you reach the square.

How to get to nearby Štramberk

From Penzion Anděl in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm it is about 30 km to Štramberk. By car you cover it comfortably in 30 to 35 minutes heading via Frenštát and Kopřivnice. You will find a car park below the historic centre, and from there you walk uphill to the square.

If you do not have a car, you can also manage it by public transport via Kopřivnice, but allow more time. For a full-day trip, the car is the most convenient option.

The Trúba tower and the view over Wallachia

The landmark of Štramberk is the cylindrical Trúba tower, the remnant of a medieval castle. The climb up is a reward in itself:

  • admission is around 60 Kč for an adult, around 40 Kč for children
  • on a clear day, from the gallery you can see the Beskydy ridges, Radhošť and Lysá hora
  • a staircase leads up, so sturdier shoes come in handy

Opening hours are seasonal. In summer the tower is usually open daily; outside the season it is best to check the current times in advance.

Štramberk Ears, which you simply must taste

Štramberk Ears are traditional gingerbread cones made from honey dough with a protected geographical indication. They are baked to an old recipe and you can buy them fresh right in the bakeries on the square. Take a few with you — they are excellent with coffee.

What else you can fit in at Štramberk

  • the Šipka cave with its world-famous archaeological find, just above the town
  • the National Garden and the scenic paths around the ramparts
  • the archaeopark, where children learn how people lived here in prehistoric times
  • a walk through the lanes of the old Dolní Báň quarter, known as the Štramberk Nativity

You can do the whole trip at a relaxed pace in half a day. Set out in the morning and you will be back by the afternoon, ready for a coffee and a homemade cake at our café.

A full-day tip from Penzion Anděl

Štramberk pairs beautifully with a visit to Kopřivnice and the Tatra Museum, which is just next door. After a more demanding day on your feet, I recommend booking the private sauna with us in the evening, so your body can rest.

At the guesthouse we will gladly take care of your accommodation and offer tailored tips. Take a look at our rooms and write to us about a reservation by email or phone. I look forward to seeing you.
